Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

About

Oculoplastics and orbital surgery are subspecialties within ophthalmology that focus on diagnosing, managing, and surgically treating a wide range of conditions affecting the eyelids, tear ducts, and the orbit (the bony socket that houses the eye). These procedures are performed by oculoplastic surgeons who have received specialized training in both ophthalmology and plastic surgery.

Conditions Treated

Eyelid spasms

Orbital Conditions:

Thyroid eye disease

Orbital tumors

Orbital fractures

Tear Duct Problems:

Excessive tearing

Blocked tear duct

Benefits of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery

Improved Vision: Correcting eyelid malpositions or removing growths can significantly enhance vision and eye comfort.

Enhanced Aesthetics: Oculoplastic procedures can help restore a more youthful and balanced appearance to the eyes, which can boost self-confidence.

Ocular Oncology

Ocular oncology is a highly specialized field of medicine dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye cancers. These rare but potentially serious conditions can affect different parts of the eye, including the retina, iris, optic nerve, and surrounding structures.

The symptoms of ocular cancer can vary, ranging from blurred vision and eye discomfort to noticeable changes in the appearance of the eye. The most common form of eye cancer is intraocular melanoma, which arises from pigment-producing cells within the eye. Other types of cancer include retinal tumors, conjunctival tumors, orbital and eyelid tumors.

While eye cancer is relatively uncommon compared to other types of cancer, it demands special attention due to its potential impact on vision and overall eye health. Early detection and prompt treatment are essential in managing eye cancer effectively.

Ocular oncologists are trained experts who employ cutting-edge techniques such as advanced imaging, laser therapy, radiation therapy, and surgical interventions to address these conditions.

Conditions treated:

· Conjunctival melanoma

· Ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN)

· Eyelid tumors (benign and malignant tumors)

· Orbital tumors (benign and malignant tumors)

· Uveal melanoma

· Vitreoretinal lymphoma

Procedures:

· Cryotherapy

· Intravitreal chemotherapy

· Photodynamic therapy

· Plaque radiotherapy

· Transpupillary thermotherapy

· Tumor resection
