At University Family Medicine - Peninsula, patients will find specialized care in family medicine, conveniently located in downtown Charleston. Our doctors deliver academic medicine excellence and are committed to advancing the health of our community. We are accepting new patients of all ages, from newborns to grandparents. Your family medicine care team consists of doctors, nurses, technicians, medical students, and support staff who work in unison to provide you with the best care. We diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions, offering accessible and complete medical care for acute illnesses, chronic disease management, and preventive care-on-site laboratory and pharmacy services are also available to our patients. As part of the Medical University of South Carolina academic medical center, you may be seen by resident physicians ("residents"). Our residents are doctors who have completed medical school and are pursuing specialized training in the Family Medicine field. Medical students may also be in the clinic alongside residents and attendings.

Amanda Jones, PA-C, MPH, obtained a Bachelor's of Arts in Biological Sciences from Clemson University in 2014. Amanda then completed their physician assistant training at Massachusetts College of Pharmacology and Health Science in Worcester, MA in 2017. They then attended an Academic Generalist Fellowship at MUSC and obtained a Masters in Public Health from MUSC in 2021. During this time, they conducted research on health disparities in the local LGBTQ+ community. Their interest include primary care, LGBTQ+ healthcare, mental health, and decreasing healthcare disparities. They have been with MUSC Family Medicine since 2019.

Anthony Poole is a family medicine Physician Assistant who has been treating adult and pediatric patients in South Carolina since his graduation from MUSC's PA Program in 2009. He spent most of his early career focused on rural health and providing care to underserved communities across the state. He is passionate about ensuring that all patients receive high quality healthcare regardless of their background. He enjoys being a part of a multidisciplinary care team that treat patients with dignity and respect. Clinically, he focuses on preventing chronic disease through lifestyle and behavior changes and involves patients in their plan of care. He strives to control patient's chronic conditions through evidence-based treatment plans and ensures patients are properly screened for cancer and other chronic diseases according to the most up to date guidelines. Anthony was recognized as the South Carolina Provider of the Year in 2020 by the SC Primary Health Care Association and as one of Charleston's Forty Under 40 Professionals in 2020. He completed a doctoral program in Administrative Medicine through the University of Lynchburg in 2022 where he graduated with his Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) degree with additional graduate certificates in Clinical Administrative Leadership and Executive Leadership.





In addition to his clinical duties, Mr. Poole also serves as MUSC's System Director for Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI). In this role, he works under the leadership of MUSC's Chief Quality Officer to ensure that all patients at MUSC receive high quality healthcare services in an environment that is safe and patient centered.

Terrence E. Steyer, M.D., is a graduate of Allegheny College and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed family medicine residency training at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program at the University of Michigan.





Dr. Steyer began his academic career at MUSC, serving as the director of the Trident - MUSC Transitional Year Residency and director of a medical school course on evidence-based medicine. In 2009, he was recruited to the Medical College of Georgia - University of Georgia Medical Partnership where he served as the founding chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences. In this role, Dr. Steyer developed and managed the third- and fourth-year medical school curriculum for a new branch campus of the Medical College of Georgia.





Dr. Steyer was recruited back to MUSC in 2014 to serve as chair of the Department of Family Medicine and was named the first Gregory-Chandler Endowed Chair in Family Medicine in 2015. In 2017, he was named chief of the Primary Care Integrated Center for Clinical Excellence (ICCE) and President of Carolina Family Care. In these roles, Dr. Steyer served as leader of primary care efforts across MUSC Health. In 2021, he was elected by his peers to serve as president of MUSC Physicians, the faculty group practice. He was appointed Interim Dean of the College of Medicine effective April 1, 2022. Following a national search, he was elected Dean of the College of Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs by the MUSC Board of Trustees in December of 2022.





Dr. Steyer is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, for which he served as national president 2009-10. He is an active researcher in the area of health care policy and leadership development for health care professionals. His current work includes research on the evolution of primary care medicine at MUSC.
