He fulfilled his internship and residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He completed a fellowship in cardiology at the Texas Heart Institute through the Baylor College of Medicine, located in Houston, Texas. Dr. Carlson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
