Dr. Skandalakis was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended The Westminster Schools and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS degree in Applied Physics. He attended Emory University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery training at Cook County Hospital and University of Illinois in Chicago. After leaving Chicago, he was on the staff at the Medical College of Georgia in the trauma and critical care department. He then moved to Atlanta where he entered private practice with his father. It was from his father (who was also a professor of anatomy at Emory) that he learned his love of that subject. He has been involved with teaching anatomy to fourth year medical students at Emory University. He is presently a Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Emory. He has numerous publications on anatomy and surgical technique including Journal publications as well as book chapters and books. The fourth edition of his Surgical Anatomy and Technique is soon to be published and previous editions have been translated into many languages. He has a particular interest in hernias.

The doctor does not have the greatest bedside manner, but knew that before scheduling my surgery. Wanted the expertise & experience. Still had questions/concerns before surgery, but even w/that would recommend him & the practice to anyone.
