As a neonatologist, I have the opportunity to care for a vulnerable population with the capability to completely recover from severe illness and become healthy children and productive adults. For me, this is one of the most rewarding aspects of neonatology and one of the key reasons I entered this subspecialty. The humanistic side of medicine is also very important to me. Although my three children were never admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit, as a mother I understand that having an ill child is an extremely stressful experience for parents. Helping parents and families during such a difficult time is gratifying. Finally, my special interests include neonatal resuscitation, neonatal simulation, and the care of infants at the limits of vulnerability.
