Reza J Karimi, MD

Dr. Reza J. Karimi, M.D., FACS, FAANS, is an endovascular and vascular neurosurgeon who specializes in innovative treatments for brain aneurysms, vascular tumors, stroke, and vascular malformations of the brain and spine. Dr. Karimi is able to perform some of the most complex and intricate surgeries including: Brain aneurysm coiling, brain aneurysm microsurgery (clipping), minimally invasive neurosurgery, arteriovenous malformations embolization, AVM microsurgery and radiosurgery, carotid and vertebral artery stenting and reconstruction, trauma and critical care neurosurgery, and emergency cerebral revascularization.
Inspired by his father, a practicing physician, Dr. Karimi's fascination with medicine and scientific advancements began in childhood. After seeing his first neurosurgical operation in medical school, the immense complexity and the ability to have such a positive effect on a patient's life was captivating. It was immediately clear that Neurosurgery was the specialty for him.
A native New Jerseyan, Dr. Karimi attended UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, and served as Chief Resident during his time at both Hackensack University Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr. Karimi went on to receive advanced fellowship training in Microvascular Neurosurgery and Endovascular Neurosurgery at North Shore University Hospital, making him one of the only neurosurgeons in the nation with this level of specialized training.
Dr. Karimi is invested in the advancement of his field. Along with providing care to his patients, Dr. Karimi is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. His publications include several peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters in major neurosurgical textbooks, along with clinical research in cerebrovascular neurosurgery, endovascular neurosurgery, neurocritical care, neurosurgical anatomy, flow dynamics of intracranial aneurysms, and biomechanics of the spine. Dr Karimi is also an instructor for the American Association of Neurological Surgery (AANS) Goodman Board certification course, educating and certifying future neurosurgeons.
