Thomas Stephen Upshaw, MD

Dr. Thompson Stephen Upshaw is an emergency medicine physician at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Dr. Upshaw earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Florida with Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. He received his undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Chicago . Dr. Upshaw is board-certified in family practice medicine and emergency medicine and has been practicing medicine for 26 years. Prior to joining Piedmont Atlanta, Dr. Upshaw was assistant co-medical director and quality assurance director for Alachua County Fire Rescue in Gainesville, Fla. Dr. Upshaw was also a Major in the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1989 and won three Excellence in Teaching Awards from the University of Florida for his role as assistant professor in the university's Department of Community Health and Family Medicine from 1989 to 1993.
